Tenterfield Youth Precinct & Mountain Bike Trailhead & Jennings Playground
On 5 August 2020 the NSW Government announced the launch of a $250 million NSW Public Spaces Legacy Program to improve the health of the community and provide jobs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This program will deliver a legacy of safe, quality public open space. The pandemic has demonstrated the value people place on their public spaces and this program focuses on creating positive public spaces for the future.
The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) will provide a $2 million funding grant to Tenterfield Shire Council for two projects. The first will create a Youth Precinct and Mountain Bike Trailhead on the existing land in Crown Street, Tenterfield. It includes a Pump Track, upgrades to the skate park, car parking and landscaping. This precinct is designed to provide a central point for youth and the community delivering a range of benefits including supporting healthy living and creating spaces for community interaction.
The precinct extends to the broader community through the proposed mountain bike trailhead which will act as the start of a mountain bike track in and around Tenterfield. It will bring local the community together as well as provide benefits for tourists filling a much-needed gap in outdoor recreational activities.
The second project will include a new covered playground and exercise equipment area in Jennings Park, Jennings. This existing park borders the Jennings Public School and provides a valuable green space for residents of the village. The proposed facilities will include new play equipment, coverage for all weather, improved amenities such as BBQs and picnic tables. It will also provide positive social benefits by encouraging physical activity to improve mental health, wellbeing and childhood development.
These projects are significant to the area and will provide benefits for the community and visitors for years to come.
